If you love dumplings and bold flavors, this easy Soup Dumplings with Spicy Peanut Sauce recipe is a must-try.

Soup Dumplings with Spicy Peanut Sauce - Main

Juicy, delicate soup dumplings get tossed in a creamy, nutty, and slightly spicy peanut sauce that takes them to the next level. It’s quick to make, bursting with umami, and perfect for a flavorful snack or appetizer.

What is Peanut Sauce for Dumplings?

Peanut sauce for dumplings is a rich, creamy sauce made from peanut butter, soy sauce, vinegar, lime juice, and chili oil. It combines savory, sweet, tangy, and spicy flavors to complement the soft, delicate texture of dumplings.

While peanut sauce is often used in Southeast Asian dishes, this version is made specifically for dumplings, adding a velvety coating that enhances every bite.

Why You’ll Love Soup Dumplings with Spicy Peanut Sauce

  • Quick & easy: This recipe comes together in just 15 minutes, making it a great last-minute meal or snack.
  • Flavor-packed: The peanut sauce is creamy, savory, slightly sweet, and spicy, perfectly complementing the dumplings.
  • Perfect texture: The silky peanut sauce coats the dumplings, adding richness without overpowering their delicate soup-filled centers.
  • Customizable spice level: You can easily adjust the chili oil to make it as mild or spicy as you like.
  • Great for any dumplings: Works with store-bought soup dumplings or homemade ones.

Ingredients

Soup Dumplings:

  • Frozen soup dumplings: The base of this dish! I used Laoban brand, but any frozen soup dumplings will work.

For the Spicy Peanut Sauce:

  • Creamy peanut butter: Gives the sauce a smooth, nutty, and rich flavor.
  • Soy sauce: Adds umami depth and balances the sweetness of the peanut butter.
  • Rice wine vinegar: A touch of acidity that brightens the sauce and enhances the overall flavor.
  • Brown sugar: Adds a little sweetness to balance the salty and spicy elements.
  • Chili oil: The heat factor! Adjust based on your spice preference.
  • Lime juice: Fresh citrus cuts through the richness and adds a refreshing tang.
  • Garlic: A small but essential ingredient for a hint of sharpness.
  • Warm water: Helps loosen the peanut sauce to the right consistency.
  • Crushed peanuts: Adds crunch and extra peanut flavor for garnish.
  • Chopped scallions: Brings a fresh, slightly sharp contrast to the rich sauce.

How to Make Soup Dumplings with Spicy Peanut Sauce

Blend the peanut sauce:

In a blender (or using an immersion blender), combine peanut butter, soy sauce, rice wine vinegar, brown sugar, chili oil, lime juice, garlic, and warm water. Blend until smooth. If the sauce is too thick, add water 1 tablespoon at a time until it reaches the right consistency.

Steam the dumplings:

Set up a steamer over medium heat and steam the frozen soup dumplings for 10-12 minutes, or until fully heated through.

Coat the dumplings:

Pour the spicy peanut sauce into a large bowl. Gently add the steamed dumplings and toss them until evenly coated.

Garnish and serve:

Top with crushed peanuts, additional chili oil, and chopped scallions. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Storage

This dish is best eaten fresh since the sauce can thicken, and the dumplings may lose their delicate texture over time.

Tips

  • Adjust spice level: If you prefer a milder sauce, start with less chili oil and add more to taste.
  • Use creamy peanut butter: Natural peanut butter can be used, but make sure to stir it well before blending for a smooth consistency.
  • Steam dumplings properly: Ensure the steamer is fully heated before adding the dumplings to cook them evenly.
